Cool Tiger feature.  Open Dictionary.app and in its prefs set the contextual menu to “Open Dictionary panel”.  Now in any app double click on a word to highlight it.  Bring up the contextual menu and select “Look up in dictionary”.  Very handy to have.   Thanks to Kevin Fyure in the discussion thread for John’s Tiger review for pointing it out.
